“How to Start and Develop My Own Consulting Business”

Main goal

Beneficiaries of this workshop will gain the required knowledge and the necessary basic skills to start and/or develop a consulting business.

Objectives

At the end of this elearning workshop, participants will be able to:

1. Identify the probable difficulties or key points of improvements to achieve success in the consultancy process.

2. Know and become skilled in every stage of the consulting business.

3. Learn to create contract agreements and set prices.

4. Put in practice the consulting process in a personal real situation. (Coaching provided as part of the course).

5. Be able to identify the different types of consultancy and plan the process accordingly

6. Learn the key success factors to consider in every step of the consultancy process

7. Identify the potential difficulties during the consultancy business development and learn how to overcome them.

8. Acquire various skills in utilizing some consulting tools. (Depending on the interest and time availability of the participant)

 

Training Modules

Session 1: WHO can be Consultant and WHAT implies a Consulting Business

In Session one, all participants will acknowledge the different types of consultants as well as the skills and competences required t o develop for each type of consultant.   Also, participants will have an overview of the consulting process regardless of which industry they may want to operate.

Whether the business consulting is oriented to fashion design, management, architecture, hospitality or marketing services, all consulting services have a systematic process.  Therefore, in the following sessions, participants will have access to a wide range of information and tools for every stage of the consulting process; these tools address the consultancy process rather than the technical aspects of a particular industry. 

Session 2: PROCESING a consulting business

In Session two, all participants are introduced more in depth to different techniques used in every stage of the consulting process through case studies and if possible, through a self diagnosis with those who already started their consultancy businesses and/or are in the process of developing it. This module concentrates on getting ready to put in practice different tools to develop the consulting business.

Session 3: Defining My Consulting Business development

In Session three, all participants already have became aware of the necessary skills, competences and attitudes required to develop their consultancy business and also have identified some ways to overcome potential difficulties or needs. Additional coaching sessions are provided to those participants who require it in order to clarify doubts and ideas in regard to their personal cases.

This module concentrates on knowing how to apply the tools successfully and become aware of the how to overcome potential challenges while creating and developing the consultancy business.

Session 4: Goal Setting and Operations, Strategic Planning

In Session Four, all participants will set up concrete goals and objectives while developing their strategic planning and will focus for the next sessions in a certain aspects of their consulting business developing; for achieving this, students also create a concrete plan to reach these milestones. Different tools are reviewed.

This module concentrates on setting up realistic plan objectives and goals to achieve them starting from now. Since the course has been designed based on the constructivist model, would be expected of participants to start implementing tools, techniques and knowledge acquired since the previous session.

Session 5: Knowing my Consulting Business

In Session Five, participants acquire more theoretical knowledge on how different approaches to consulting can enhance the quality service provided. Even though, the knowledge and expertise of the consulting issue is one of the key factors, also there are skills and competences on how to deliver a good consultancy service. This module concentrates on developing the “know how” on different techniques and becoming more competent with various skills.

Session 6: My Consulting Business Plan in Action

In Session Six, Participants share their experiences and get feedback on their business developments. Consulting tools are discussed and assistance is provided to each participant in order to ensure a good implementation of the activities planned in the previous sessions.

This module concentrates in reinforcing the capacity to implement the business plan and achieving milestones in different business areas.

Session 7: The Art of Consulting

In Session Seven, participants review all the consulting process and tools keeping in mind the key success factors for every stage of the process.  This module concentrates in the key factors of success for every tool that participants have used for their consulting business plan.

Session 8: Follow Up Session (Aprox. 2 months later)

In Session Eight, students get together to share their experiences on the tools used in their business plans and learn from each other as well as from the instructors. Also, people get motivated again to start or continue their business plan developments.

This module concentrates in providing the necessary support to all students in order to achieve the goals set in the business plans.

Other Course Considerations

The course provides a lot of different tools that can be used in the consulting process, we encourage all participants to expand their knowledge and skills by practicing these tools that can reinforce their business skills and competences for consulting services.

In this workshop we use two level educational materials: basic or for beginners and complex or for advanced students. In this way, if a participant already knows a certain topic or is particularly interested in a topic, has the opportunity to go deeper in knowledge and practice a more complex technique.

Students have access to case studies (basic & advanced), forum topics, assignments, quizzes, technical notes for every tool (basic & advanced), recorded presentations for every session, charts, summaries, videos and booklets. All this is provided in digital form; if desired, you may get them in hard copy for an additional fee.
