“How to Be Successful in Organizational Development ”

Main goal

There are systems or methodologies made from extensive research on Organizational Development theories that over the years have become more complex and thus require people to develop particular skills in order to lead effectively and organizational change. In other words, Effective OD is achieved through a system approach strongly influenced by organizational needs, organizational politics, resistance to change, market trends, etc.

Beneficiaries of this workshop will gain the required knowledge and the necessary basic skills to lead an organizational change in specific or overall areas of an organization, regardless the type of organization.

Objectives

At the end of this elearning workshop, participants will be able to:

1. Learn how to develop an organization development diagnosis; analyze facts, recognize organizational culture, effectiveness, and issues related to resistance to change.   

2. Compare and contrast organization process approaches, analyze problems, and develop recommendations for improving organizational performances.

3. Put in practice the knowledge acquired in a real business problem from an organizational development perspective. Participants may have the choice to practice on a simulated Organizational Development situation.

4. Identify the ways in which people view services and organizational development. A customer service oriented view of organizational development.

5. Gain awareness and understanding of Organization Development models and be able to apply at least one OD model to their own experiences.

6. Understand the dynamics of “resistance to change” in organizational development.

7. Acquire knowledge of various Organization Development techniques and proper understanding of their applications, capabilities and potential challenges. 

 

Training Modules

Session 1: Defining Organizational Development

In Session one, participants have a discussion of the different theories on organizational development, also it is analyzed the relationships that individuals have in a group and organization. It is defined how the organizational processes and structures behave according to different parameters (culture, knowledge, industry, type of organization, etc.) Also, it is defined the direction of the workshop in terms of topics and practice – depending on participants’ requirements –. 

Session 2: The Field of Organizational Development

In Session two, participants investigate the nature of change, forces for change, and the impact of change on its recipients as they examine their own roles and skill sets as leaders of change. Students are introduced to different techniques to work on diverse aspects of one’s prosperity. Initially, a few techniques are chosen to apply them on a defined aspect of their life starting right after the session.

This module concentrates on values and ethics underlying OD as applied to practice and the essential skills for the OD practitioner, including entering, contracting, developing client capability, and managing unplanned events in the change process.

Session 3: Skills and competences in O.D.

In Session three, participants examine theories of group process and team dynamics, as well as practical techniques for facilitating productivity as a team member or outside facilitator. Also, it is reviewed group formation and structure, cohesion, power, conflict and negotiation, and decision-making. Students are challenged to develop their own OD projects as leaders of change by integrating leadership with such topics as ethics, cultural and coaching.

Session 4: Organizational Development: Setting up Goals & Objectives

In Session Four, participants are introduced to evaluation of change initiatives in organizations as well as goal setting and planning. OD goals are set from the customer perspective and value oriented. Every student defines goals and plans for their personal projects and share experiences.

Session 5: Knowing O.D.

In Session Five, participants acquire more theoretical knowledge on OD theories and tools. Emphasis is on applied research methods and techniques used in organizational developing and design and implementation of various organizational interventions.

Session 6: My O.D. Plan in Action

In Session Six, students learn about the different OD tools and their plans by sharing their experiences and knowledge and getting feedback on how to improve their OD plans. Participants analyze an organization's current state and recommend strategies for change. This module concentrates in reinforcing the capacity to implement an organizational development plan.

Session 7: The Life Cycle of Organizational Development

In Session Seven, students discuss about their experiences on the tools and techniques used in their OD plans. Students become aware of the most important issues to keep in mind when developing their OD plan.  The field of organizational development (OD) was originally based on a blend of psychology and sociology; it now incorporates many business elements such as strategic planning, production, accounting, change management, conflict resolution, diversity, performance feedback systems, team building, organizational redesign, business process redesign, etc.

Session 8: Follow Up Session (Aprox. 2 months later)

In Session Eight, students get together to share their experiences on the tools used in their OD plans and learn from each other as well as from the instructors. Also, students get motivated again to continue or start to use other effective OD tools.

This module concentrates in providing the necessary support to all participants in order to achieve the goals set in the personal OD plans.

Other Course Considerations

The course provides a lot of different tools that can be used in the Organizational Development process, we encourage all participants to expand their knowledge and skills by practicing these tools that can reinforce their business skills and competences for leadering an organizational development project.

In this workshop we use two level educational materials: basic or for beginners and complex or for advanced students. In this way, if a participant already knows a certain topic or is particularly interested in a topic, has the opportunity to go deeper in knowledge and practice a more complex knowledge and tools.

Students have access to case studies (basic & advanced), forum topics, assignments, quizzes, technical notes for every tool (basic & advanced), recorded presentations for every session, charts, summaries, videos and booklets. All this is provided in digital form; if desired, you may get them in hard copy for an additional fee.
